In web development, a mashup is a web page or application that combines data or functionality from two or more external sources to create a new service. The term mashup implies easy, fast integration, frequently using open APIs and data sources to produce results that were not the original reason for producing the raw source data.

First Place Mashup
The rtrend mashup provides a visual depiction of the current trending twitter topics. It combines the Twitter API with the Flickr API which are pulled together in a Ruby on Rails application. This mashup was created by @jeg2, @dgrayinok, @schofield, @kingduggan, @photomattmills, and @josephholsten.
Second Place Mashup
Three Lines of Beauty creates a Haiku using the latest twitter trending topics. The Twitter and Wordnet APIs are pulled together in a PHP application. This mashup was created by @maeghan, @garrettrayj, @joseph_donley, and @proidiot.
Honorable Mention Mashups
TweetTranslate translates twitter feeds into a number of languages. The Twitter and Google translation APIs are pulled together in a Perl application. This mashup was created by @michaelbeam, @divinism, Dee Wu and @moreindie.
Aplusk Number searches the Twitter social graph recursively to determine how connected someone is to Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk). Ashton Kutcher is a fameous personality on twitter. Aplusk Number users the twitter api from a Ruby on Rails application. This mashup was created by @thirtysixthspan.
